Race Overview

Welcome to Care2.com's Race for the Rain Forest, plus two new habitats! The Race for the Rain Forest is a quick, easy way to help save rain forest with a simple point and click. Due to the popularity of our fourth Race from November 8, 2000 to October 19, 2001, we decided to start a new, improved race with 2 additional habitats.

What you need to do: Click on one of the 3 habitat buttons located at http://rainforest.care2.com up to once per day. Each click generates a donation, paid by Care2, Horizon Organic, Nature Valley, and Seaworld, or other sponsors to The Nature Conservancy's Adopt An Acre program. 100% of the money you generate will be donated to The Nature Conservancy.

How to save even more land:

  1. Get your friends to help: When you invite friends to join the Race, you'll get credit for their participation. After all, if it wasn't for you, they wouldn't be helping to save the rain forest. You'll get credit for the friends they invite, and their friends, and their friends. We'll chart everyone's progress so you can see your impact. One person can really make a difference!

  2. Take advantage of special land-saving offers: On the right side of the Race homepage, you will find advertisers offering different products and/or services. If you take advantage of these offers, Care2 will make a donation to save additional rain forest land.

  3. Register for the race: Care2 will make a donation to double the land you save on your first click.

(Note: While we appreciate some people's efforts to save more land by using "creative marketing" ideas, please do not send unsolicited invitations to people you do not know. Please do not sign up for multiple accounts. To preserve the integrity of the Race, we will be forced to terminate accounts that are abusing this trust.)

Where the money goes: Care2.com donates 100% of net revenues from the race to The Nature Conservancy's Land Conservation programs. To save rain forest, The Nature Conservancy is working with its long-time Bolivian partner, Proteccion del Medo Ambiente Tarija (PROMETA), to purchase nearly 40,000 acres of land to create an (ecological corridor between the Tariquia National Flora and Fauna Reserve in Bolivia and neighboring Baritu National Park in Argentina.

In addition, TNC works to preserve land in North American prairies and grasslands partially by supporting sustainable farming. Ecologically friendly farming practices help protect the environment in ways that are also compatable with human and wildlife needs.

Finally, TNC works in many countries to protect marine wetlands. Wetlands are a critical component of marine eco-systems because they act as natural sponges, soaking up toxins before they reach the ocean, while also acting as nurseries for many baby marine animals.
